R-Stream is a High Level Compiler being developed as part of the DARPA IPTO Polymorphous Computer Architecture Program. The compiler is targeted at the problem of mapping high performance embedded signal/knowledge processing applications. Our 2.0 version, presented as a poster at HPEC last year, will be performing application mapping via the Streaming Virtual Machine interface to low level compilers (LLC). This presentation will focus on the implementation and architecture of the high level...

We study the escape of Lyman continuum radiation from the disks of dwarf starburst galaxies, with and without supershells, by solving the radiation transfer problem of stellar radiation through them. We model disks with Md=10^8-10Msun, with exponential surface density profiles as a function of redshift, and model the of repeated supernova explosions driving supershells out of the disks, using the hydrodynamic simulation code, ZEUS-3D. The amount of star formation is assumed proportional to mass...

The Paperwork Reduction Act of 1980 created the Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs (OIRA) within the Office of Management and Budget (OMB). Executive Order 12291, issued by President Reagan in 1981, gave OIRA the responsibility to review the substance of agencies' regulatory actions before publication in the Federal Register. Since then, OIRA has played a significant -- and sometimes determinative -- role in the federal rulemaking process. The office's regulatory review role was...

We show how the crucial gauge cancellations leading to a physical definition of the neutrino charge radius persist in the presence of non-vanishing fermion masses. An explicit one-loop calculation demonstrates that, as happens in the massless case, the pinch technique rearrangement of the Feynman amplitudes, together with the judicious exploitation of a fundamental current relation leads to a completely gauge independent definition of the effective neutrino charge radius. Using the formalism of...

We construct knot invariants on the basis of ascribing Euclidean geometric values to a triangulation of sphere S^3 where the knot lies. The main new feature of this construction compared to the author's earlier papers on manifold invariants is that now nonzero "deficit angles" (in the terminology of Regge calculus) can also be handled. Moreover, the knot goes exactly along those edges of triangulations that have nonzero deficit angles.

In this paper, we study a second order variational problem for locally convex hypersurfaces, which is the affine invariant analogue of the classical Plateau problem for minimal surfaces. We prove existence, regularity and uniqueness results for hypersurfaces maximizing affine area under appropriate boundary conditions.

In earlier papers the author studied some classes of equations with Carlitz derivatives for $\mathbb F_q$-linear functions, which are the natural function field counterparts of linear ordinary differential equations. Here we consider equations containing self-compositions $u\circ u\circ ... \circ u$ of the unknown function. As an algebraic background, imbeddings of the composition ring of $\mathbb F_q$-linear holomorphic functions into skew fields are considered.

We construct a dynamical reflection equation algebra, $\tilde {\mathcal{K}}$, via a dynamical twist of the ordinary reflection equation algebra. A dynamical version of the reflection equation is deduced as a corollary. We show that $\tilde {\mathcal{K}}$ is a right comodule algebra over a dynamical analog of the Faddeev-Reshetikhin-Takhtajan algebra equipped with a structure of right bialgebroid. We introduce dynamical trace and use it for constructing central elements of $\tilde {\mathcal{K}}$.

This study shows that a modulationally destabilized monochromatic wave in a fluid system may undergo a subcritical bifurcation directly into chaos, when dissipation is weak enough. Analysis is made within the framework of the complex Ginzburg-Landau equations.

We study a quantum game played by two players with restricted multiple strategies. It is found that in this restricted quantum game Nash equilibrium does not always exist when the initial state is entangled. At the same time, we find that when Nash equilibrium exists the pay off function is usually different from that in the classical counterpart except in some special cases. This presents an explicit example where quantum game and classical game may differ. When designing a quantum game with...

In this work, we generalize the quantum secret sharing scheme of Hillary, Bu\v{z}ek and Berthiaume[Phys. Rev. A59, 1829(1999)] into arbitrary multi-parties. Explicit expressions for the shared secret bit is given. It is shown that in the Hillery-Bu\v{z}ek-Berthiaume quantum secret sharing scheme the secret information is shared in the parity of binary strings formed by the measured outcomes of the participants. In addition, we have increased the efficiency of the quantum secret sharing scheme...

When a reciprocating heat engine is started it eventually settles to a stable mode of operation. The approach of a first principle quantum heat engine toward this stable limit cycle is studied. The engine is based on a working medium consisting of an ensemble of quantum systems composed of two coupled spins. A four stroke cycle of operation is studied, with two {\em isochore} branches where heat is transferred from the hot/cold baths and two {\em adiabats} where work is exchanged. The dynamics...

Both reciprocal and non-reciprocal component in the polarization azimuth rotation of the diffracted light were identified. The structural chirality of the array arrangement and the chirality of individual elements of the array give...

The absorption lines in the soft X-ray spectrum of MCG--6-30-15 are studied using the Reflection Grating Spectrometer data from the 2001 XMM-Newton 320 ks observation. A line search of the full time-averaged spectrum reveals 51 absorption lines and one emission line. The equivalent widths of the lines are measured and the majority of the lines identified. We find lines produced by a broad range of charge states for several elements, including almost all the charge states oxygen and iron,...

We present an alternative derivation of the dynamical density functional theory for the one body density profile of a classical fluid developed by Marconi and Tarazona [J. Chem. Phys., 110, 8032 (1999)]. Our derivation elucidates further some of the physical assumptions inherent in the theory and shows that it is not restricted to fluids composed of particles interacting solely via pair potentials; rather it applies to general, multi-body interactions. The starting point for our derivation is...

We consider the geometric formulation of the Hamiltonian formalism for field theory in terms of {\em Hamiltonian connections} and {\em multisymplectic forms}. In this framework the covariant Hamilton equations for Mechanics and field theory are defined in terms of multisymplectic $(n+2)$--forms, where $n$ is the dimension of the basis manifold, together with connections on the configuration bundle. We provide a new geometric Hamiltonian description of field theory, based on the introduction of...

We show that a free Dirac quantum field on a globally hyperbolic spacetime has the following structural properties: (a) any two quasifree Hadamard states on the algebra of free Dirac fields are locally quasiequivalent; (b) the split-property holds in the representation of any quasifree Hadamard state; (c) if the underlying spacetime is static, then the nuclearity condition is satisfied, that is, the free energy associated with a finitely extended subsystem (``box'') has a linear dependence on...

Results of a detailed examination of the cascade nucleosynthesis resulting from the putative hadronic decay, evaporation, or annihilation of a primordial relic during the Big Bang nucleosynthesis (BBN) era are presented. It is found that injection of energetic nucleons around cosmic time 1000 sec may lead to an observationally favored reduction of the primordial Li7/H yield by a factor 2 - 3. Moreover, such sources also generically predict the production of the Li6 isotope with magnitude close...

In 1994 we showed that very large classes of systems of nonlinear PDEs have solutions which can be assimilated with usual measurable functions on the Euclidean domains of definition of the respective equations. Recently, the regularity of such solutions has significantly been improved by showing that they can in fact be assimilated with Hausdorff continuous functions. The method of solution of PDEs is based on the Dedekind order completion of spaces of smooth functions which are defined on the...
